Coosa: From Enslavement to Land Management - The First Homestead
After emancipation, Hardy became actively involved in the political process, registering to vote in 1867 alongside many other African American men of the time. By 1870, Hardy was also managing a family farm in Coosa, Georgia, also once known as the North Carolina District, near Rome, and close to at least one of Mary’s relatives. The entire family worked together, each member contributing to the farm's success and likely helping Hardy save enough money to purchase additional property in the years that followed.
