MLK Service Initiative - 17 Days of Impact


Join the Shelton Heritage Society's MLK Service Initiative: 17 Days of Impact, a two-week period beginning January 15, 2025 through January 31, 2025, dedicated to honoring Dr. King's legacy through meaningful community service. Discover key areas of impact, share your contributions, and make a difference. #SHSMLK17Days

The Shelton family has a history of giving back to the community, and it is extremely important to our descendant community.  Please click the link below to submit your photos, videos, share your service story, and provide consent for promotional use. We also encourage you (optional) to record a short video, 10 seconds or less, with or without your family and/or friends, declaring your commitment to community service. For example, you can gather at your service location and proudly shout together, "We/I take the pledge!"  We look forward to highlighting your impactful contributions! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please reach out to info@sheltonheritagesociety.org.  Kindly note that while we greatly appreciate your submission, photos or videos may be selected at our discretion for inclusion in our promotional materials.

Key Areas of Service: Honor Dr. King's Legacy with Action

The Shelton Heritage Society invites supporters and descendants to honor Dr. King’s legacy by engaging in meaningful community service during our 17 Days of Impact initiative. Here are some key areas where you can make a difference in your community:

  1. Feeding the Hungry
    Volunteer at a local food bank, prepare meals for the homeless, or organize a food drive to support families in need.

  2. Supporting Education
    Tutor students, donate school supplies, or partner with local schools to help empower the next generation.

  3. Environmental Stewardship
    Participate in community clean-ups, plant trees, or support initiatives that protect and beautify local parks and green spaces.

  4. Advocating for Social Justice
    Join or support initiatives focused on equity, civil rights, and inclusivity in your community through workshops, advocacy campaigns, etc.

  5. Caring for Seniors
    Volunteer at senior centers, assist with errands, or spend time connecting with elderly individuals who may feel isolated.

  6. Health and Wellness
    Help at community health clinics, organize fitness activities, or spread awareness about mental health resources.

  7. Youth Empowerment
    Mentor young people, support local youth programs, or organize events that encourage creativity, leadership, and personal growth.

  8. Supporting Individuals and Families without Homes                                                                                        Volunteer to assist those without homes with various needs, including clothing and toiletry items.
